According to the KWQC channel 6 copy of this AP release our esteemed governor is going to apply state funding to market the Rock Island Arsenal as something other than military in its function. We all have to face the fact that those locations which outfit the army's Humvees for battle are going to become extraneous when the Pentagon gets through slashing its budget... in this post-Cold-War world, we won't need versatile, mobile, small-scale transportation for the troops. We'll need LOTS more big-ass battle cruisers and heavy armored tanks that will get bogged down in sand and muck, and won't be able to travel through a city street without taking down all the surrounding buildings. Yeah. There's no military future in the RIA's assembly plants. Sure.
And I'm happy to see the gov is dropping a few thousand advertising dollars into our fading downstate economy, in the hopes that it will draw businesses to the region. It's SO comparable to offering a foreign company millions to set up shop in suburban Chicago...
