Our local rag does it again. In today's print edition -- Saint Patrick's Day, 17 March 2008, the 20th anniversary of Saddam Hussein's gassing of the innocents in Halabja*, our local so-called journal prints two articles of "news": an Associated (with terrorists) Press opinion piece sold as news, in which the old "Blood for Oil" canard is raised again, and yesterday's piece on the 40th anniversary of My Lai (the perpetrators of which were brought to trial and punished as soon as senior officers got wind of it).
Those two anti-American pieces, plus an article on Senator McCain's travels and one on the turmoil in Tibet, were the sum and all of international -- and even national -- news for today. Apparently, a deadly crane-fall in NYC, a deadly tornado strike in Atlanta, and countless other events don't measure up to "newsworthy" status, but these two things do.
I am so proud of my local paper. It's gone far beyond what it was when I first moved to town as a little kid. Yah sure. Ya betcha.
