"Free Speech" party must be very proud today

Democrats in Senate issued a threat to ABC, yesterday -- not very thinly veiled, at that -- over the upcoming airing of a Docudrama about the events leading up to 9/11/01:

The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest.

So, they dangle the license over the heads of ABC/Disney, then say "you need to change or cancel this docudrama because it's "a program that could be construed as right-wing political propaganda" (if you happen to be an ignoramus who believes that Berger, Albright, and the Clintons should forever get a free pass for missing clues, and that everything -- including the first bombing of the WTC, the attack on the Cole, the bombing of the Khobar Towers, the killing of American Ambassadors in Africa, the Great Depression, the eruption of Vesuvius, the extinction of dinosaurs, etc. -- should be laid at Dubya's door, then, yeah, you probably will see it that way).

Should Disney allow this programming to proceed as planned, the factual record, millions of viewers, countless schoolchildren, and the reputation of Disney as a corporation worthy of the trust of the American people and the United States Congress will be deeply damaged. We urge you, after full consideration of the facts, to uphold your responsibilities as a respected member of American society and as a beneficiary of the free use of the public airwaves to cancel this factually inaccurate and deeply misguided program.

In other words, "you're threatening to warp our view of the universe by presenting this docuDRAMA based on the 9/11 Commission's report. If you don't stop it, we'll censor you permanently. And we can do it, too. We have the power."

Democrats, take a bow, today. You've elected even bigger piles of constitution-slashing manure than the Republicans have. And the Republicans have McCain, so you've really accomplished something, this time.
