Via Instapundit, I am now learning that all my sinus headaches are migraines, and everything I knew about migraines is wrong.
I can accept most of that. Except for the part about my sinus problems. I have a chronic infection which flares up at inconvenient times. It brings with it the most spectacular pains and fever. I also have nasal allergies. They, too, bring pain... and sneezing and wheezing. I know the difference between my monthly migraines due to hormonal shifts and my agony over having had the cat sleep on my pillow.
Still, I suspect most people who have the ache behind their eyes wouldn't know how to start looking for the actual trigger... they just want to make it stop, and they'll try anything to get there.
And I'm truly happy to see that they've now come to believe chocolate isn't a migraine trigger. I'd hate to think I was deliberately causing myself pain each new moon, when that hormonal drop forces me to consume a pound of Dove's Dark Promises. I surely would not opt against that necessity merely for a little temporary comfort.
Update: aw, crap. On the one side, scientists are saying that migraines may be a harbinger of strokes, and on the other hand, allergic rhinitis may be a precursor to Parkinson's. So, whatever the cause of my headaches, I probably have cause to worry. Oy, but my head hurts, now!
