At least France is consistent

Once more, France is demanding appeasement, as long as their own safety is guaranteed:
Despite expectations that France would provide the bulk of a planned 15,000 strong UN force, Paris said Thursday it would send 200 troops to reinforce the UN mission in Lebanon.

While it said France was prepared to command the enlarged force, it also called for safety guarantees for its soliders before making further commitments.

We'll send in our own troops to prevent things from getting ugly... but we expect everybody else to protect us from anything which might get ugly.

Do these safety guarantees include requiring that somebody -- like the French troops -- keep Hizballah from setting up its missile launchers and other bases of operation within whispering distance of "peacekeeping" forces?

lgf has another good one, as an update to the same above link:
“What we must absolutely avoid is giving the image of a Western world imposing peace on the Muslim world,” she [French defense minister Michele Alliot-Marie] said.

Wow. I think they're out-Frenchifying themselves, this time. I hadn't thought they could go any lower when they came out and called for "war crimes" hearings against Israel. Now, they don't want to be caught "imposing peace" on anybody. Nope. Killing is just dandy. War is dandy, too, as long as it's just killing Jews. Of course, if the Jews strike back, it's a problem we'll have to risk our lives to prevent... until we wet ourselves once more.

Let's see, now. Can we make the Americans to blame for our piddling our pants, again? Yep. "American unilateralism" is responsible for all the violence and hatred. The Yankees must be stopped.

I love these people.
