According to New Scientist, dwarfs have been found in colliding galaxies' wake.
Of course, they're talking dwarf galaxies, but, somehow, images of John Rhys-Davies come to mind... especially when in the "Related Articles" column to the right side of the page, they post a link to Alien life seems yet more likely.
