The NTSB kicked the locomotives' union off the investigative team, in the case of the Metra crash near Chicago, because the darned locomotives just couldn't keep quiet.
It seems that the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen missed the part in the contract where the NTSB does all the talking to the media. They released a statement of defense for the engineer. I'm not sure what good it will do. Whatever the investigators find, the press is likely to tell their own version of the events, just as they did for the big wreck in 1999 at Bourbonnais, IL.
