e-Pope

According to this AP article in the Chgo Trib, the new Pope is a man of the new millennium. He has his own e-mail account. I wonder if he'll blog or read blogs, next?

I haven't commented, yet, on the new man in high office, because (a) I'm not Christian, let alone Catholic, and (b) I don't really know enough about him to make any useful remarks. Still, I've seen the words from the press and bunches of folks other westerners, who seem to think that the Vicar of Christ is supposed to change the Message of Christ to suit the modern sensibilities, and are offended that he has spoken against abortion, artificial birth control, homosexuality, etc.

As far as I can tell, the point behind a leader in faith is to LEAD, not follow the latest fads and fashions. If folks within a church disagree with the basic tenets of that faith, maybe they should consider looking elsewhere. There are PLENTY of Christian churches out there to accept them for what they choose to believe, and if they can't live with any of them, maybe the problem isn't in the Church or its leaders.

Oddly, since John Paul II took the helm, the Church's hard-line approach to so many things has actually caused the resurgence in respect for the faith, and may bring about greater influence & a growing flock. When people are introduced to a plan with the words, "it's really hard work, but the rewards are AWESOME", people tend to take interest more rapidly than they do along the easy path.

If the Church manages to clean up its problems with sex scandals, too, I'll be even more impressed.

I wish Benedict XVI the best.
