Earworm of the Day: Tubular Bells
Mike Oldfield was 19 years old when he recorded this, part of which was later used in the opening of the 1973 release of the movie, The Exorcist. Oldfield composed Tubular Bells, and played almost all the instruments on the original recording (as opposed to what is seen in the above video). All by the time he was two full decades into life.
How's that for a scary October thought? It rather reminds me of the Tom Lehrer quote about genius: "It is a sobering thought… that when Mozart was my age, he'd been dead for two years." Well, I've got a couple of decades on that, and still haven't managed to compose myself, let alone an opus. How much have you accomplished, so far?
