Earworm of the Day: State of Independence

I am not one of the many people who knew Donna Summer did a cover of this. Or that Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders did so, as well. I still hear it in Jon Anderson's voice, even though I just gave a listen to the genuinely captivating performances by both women. I suppose it doesn't help me that I went through three vinyl copies of this album, on my old turntable. It comes of having heard the title song of the Jon and Vangelis album on the radio once, and becoming set in my ways. I had fought the tendency toward fandom while Anderson was the front man for Yes, but it was the early eighties, and they wore down my resistance...

Also not hurting: Vangelis went on to provide the brilliant soundtrack for Blade Runner, which I have  seen more times than I'm comfortable admitting to.
