Art Buchwald, 81, recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, has died. According to most reports, Buchwald had checked himself into a hospice last February after his kidney began failing and he had refused further dialysis. He had not expected to live more than a few weeks, at that time. Buchwald managed to last nearly a year.
In the interim, he published a book, Too Soon to Say Goodbye. It's worth borrowing from the library, or waiting for, if it's already checked out. We like black humor, around here.
Of Buchwald's earlier works I have nothing to say. I was not a regular reader, let alone a fan. Nevertheless, the literary and political worlds must note his passing.
