Making a list and wrecking it twice

I got directed to Primordial Slack, today, & found this nice entry, so I decided to follow up with my own answers. Not my Christmas list, but probably as significant... the ones I've done have been put in bold.

1. Started your own blog
. D'oh! I'll have to get right on that, won't I?

2. Slept under the stars
. Not for long, mind you.

3. Played in a band
. Well, sang back-up. Does that count?

4. Visited Hawaii. Maybe someday. After I get to Alaska.

5. Watched a meteor shower. (see question #2) From the back of a friend's pickup truck, with three of us looking like the God-Emperors of Dune in our sleeping bags.

6. Given more than you can afford to charity
. Usually.

7. Been to Disney World Once was enough. I'd have preferred Epcot.

9. Held a praying mantis
every summer since I moved back home to IL.

10. Sang a solo
. Nah. Well, yeah, actually. But I can't make a habit of it.

11. Bungee jumped - I've never felt that shared terror is a strong enough relationship-builder. Having kids is much more terrifying, anyway.

12. Visited Paris.

13. Watched a lightning storm at sea. Of course, I was ashore. OTOH, I was caught in a gale in a little cabin cruiser, on Lake Michigan, in my very early life.

14. Taught yourself an art from scratch.
Working on piano. Already done some miniature furniture crafting.

16. Had food poisoning
. e. coli. Still suffering long-term effects to digestion.

17. Walked to the top of the Statue of Liberty
. Not my idea of practical entertainment, but the crew I was with seemed pleased I didn't chicken out.

. And fruits. And they had flavor!

19. Seen the Mona Lisa in France

 Ah, for those halcyon days!

. As. If.

28. Ridden in a gondola in Venice

Been to Wisconsin & Iowa. Working on the European branch.

35. Seen an Amish community

37. Had enough money to be truly satisfied
. When I was four.

38. Seen the Leaning Tower of Pisa in person
. Lived less than a mile from the Leaning Tower of Niles. Does that count?

49. Seen the Sistine Chapel in person
. When I win the lottery.

50. Been to the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris

. The top two, though, didn't survive the constant outpourings of love I gave them.

70. Visited the Lincoln Memorial. I think it's mandatory, if you're from IL and visiting D.C. Still... probably the closest thing I've had to a religious experience.

71. Eaten caviar
. Fish-egg jelly. If Auntie Mame can eat it, so can I (as long as I'm antihistamined out the wazoo). Just not regularly.

72. Pieced a quilt
. My seester does that. I designed and hand-stitched a few articles of clothing for myself, instead.

I'm not the nerd I thought I was

At least, according to this little quiz, I'm something other than a plain, ordinary nerd:

Your result for The Nerd? Geek? or Dork? Test...

Outcast Genius

70 % Nerd, 52% Geek, 52% Dork

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in all three, earning you the title of: Outcast Genius.

Outcast geniuses usually are bright enough to understand what society wants of them, and they just don't care! They are highly intelligent and passionate about the things they know are *truly* important in the world. Typically, this does not include sports, cars or make-up, but it can on occassion (and if it does then they know more than all of their friends combined in that subject).

Outcast geniuses can be very lonely, due to their being outcast from most normal groups and too smart for the room among many other types of dorks and geeks, but they can also be the types to eventually rule the world, ala Bill Gates, the prototypical Outcast Genius.
Not that I have much pride in being equated with Bill Gates, but, hey... if the foo sh -- uh, if folks think it suits, at least I won't be expected to join Densa any time soon.

I am the nerd thy god

And this test says so.
NerdTests.com says I'm a Highly Dorky Nerd God. What are you? Click here!

As if I needed to take a test to find out... much less run it twice, as John Palmer did (HT his way). Of course, I'm only the second-born child of a proudly-and-pragmatically-pocket-protector-wearing, slide-rule-using retired particle physicist/astronomy-physics-math-and-computer-sciences professor – a man who took a similar (albeit more extensive) nerd test with his colleagues at a nuclear research facility a decade and more ago, and, having no knowledge of Star Trek, Star Wars, or any sci fi movies/series, still managed to come out with the highest score among nuclear physicists and engineers. They say it was the pocket protector which put him over the top.

My Pop is a god among gods of Geekdom. I am but a lowly nerdworm, by comparison.

How do you rate?

I wonder how many points one gets for prolonged celibacy? Hmmmm.

What Kind of Atheist Are You?

Via EclectEcon comes the latest amusement: the "What Kind of Atheist Are You?" quiz.

It seems I have just a little too much interest in the topic of religion to qualify as an Apathetic Atheist, so I've been labeled -- surprise!-- an Agnostic:

You scored as Agnostic, Agnostics consider the possibility that they may be wrong about God's existence, no matter which side of the fence they stand on. Always willing to objectively evaluate the most ridiculous proof, nevertheless, these guys are skeptics of the Nth degree.

I dunno. Seems like nothing has been proven by this test, after all....
