Tuesday fire update

Still can't find any info on press conference. Apparently, either it didn't happen, or nobody -- not even the Register-Mail, thought it was newsworthy.

Wells employs nearly 100 persons full-time, and is the largest employer within the city.

Owner of Wells says he'll stay at this location. Damage was in the range of $8-10 million. Production line building unburned, but smoke-damaged, as were offices. Probably need to replace computers, all other electronics. Leveled buildings were warehouse/shipping and maintenance structures. No estimate yet on when they will be able to rebuild and get back to work.

Monmouth firefighters on scene estimate that the biggest explosion early on in the blaze was backdraft blow-up as the fire raced into the maintenance structure. Smaller kabooms from acetylene tanks therein.

Thanks to all the cities whose fire departments came to help out. Our city is grateful.
