Petty Officer 1st Class Gary Rovinski comes home tonight.
reposted in honor of Petty Officer 1st Class Gary Rovinski
The Galesburg Register-Mail has the details.
The motorcade will come down from O'Hare, near Chicago, leaving there around 6:00 via I-80 to Interstate 74, to Galesburg, where it will come into the city around 8:30, drive past residents and past Rovinski's last place of civilian employment, the Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg. It will then make its way around to Roseville, then backtrack to and through Monmouth.
The procession will make its way to Monmouth College, where the pipers and community vocal group, the Ecumenical Singers, will be waiting to perform for a modest ceremony. Those who wish to attend the on-campus ceremony are asked to gather on the north side (facing Clinton Avenue)of the Huff Athletic Center. If you're driving over, it would probably be a good idea to park on 6th Street, or Archer Ave. & walk around the athletic center. I am guessing the motorcade should reach there by 9:10-9:45 (I know that seems like a lot of leeway, but we're kind of out in the boonies, and, besides, there should then be enough time for them to move in a stately manner).
Dave Greenlief says flags and candles are encouraged along the route. If anybody needs candles, I have some of those little white plastic "champagne glass-style" taper holders and some short-ish candles to go in them. Just let me know how many I should bring. And please bring your own means of lighting them, just in case. I only have one box of matches left.
