Monmouth loses three special people in one weekend

Gracie Peterson, the Voice of 20th Century Monmouth, has died at the age of 104.

David Phelps, member of the Warren County Genealogical Society, also a veteran of the Korean War, died Sunday.

Glendora Shaver (no link available), passed away Monday morning.

All three were prominent members of the community, active alumni of Monmouth High School and Monmouth College, and members of the Faith United Presbyterian Church (which has long, strong ties to the college, and which flock has many friends of mine).

I had the pleasure of meeting all three, at various times, especially while attending alumni weekends at our alma mater. The ladies had voices that made our choir resonate with joy and character. Mr. Phelps had a laugh which could carry across the entire of the campus' front lawn.

The church, our town and our college communities will feel this loss deeply.
