I planted poppies this morning

Before the heat became too great, today, I went out into my yard and, with my spading fork, dug up a small patch of turf oustide my bedroom window, beside the apple tree I'd planted last spring, and planted some poppy seeds. The seeds are old and were almost forgotten, like so much about this day. But we calmly labor, quietly pray to bring to maturity what was given us. I hope those seeds will grow and bloom this summer, and continue to spread their beauty with each passing year.

To all who survive the loss of a loved one in service: strength.

To all who have served: thanks.

To all, on this day of remembrance: peace.
