Want to know where the money went, in the Abramoff stink? Right Side Redux has a list of who and how much.
Now, before anybody starts demanding further campaign finance reforms, I just want to remind all that the easiest way to clean up The District is to make certain we know precisely how much each and every one of our elected representatives is being given, and by whom, and how they subsequently vote. So, here we have the money listed in connection, primarily, with casinos & a few active folks on the rezzes. It's gone into the pockets of, her in IL, just about all our people in DC. Certainly, Durbin, Hastert, Evans, Weller, Phelps, and Manzullo made the list -- I spotted all of these guys in just one quick glance.
Frankly, I don't mind that they've accepted money from somebody. I mind that they seemed to think that's all part of the job, and they're entitled to it. I mind that they are treating this as though it were some purely Republican problem, when it's systemic. I mind that they pretend to be concerned for our freedoms, and at the same time they pass laws restricting my freedom to speak and think for myself (McCain-Feingold is the classic one, there, but feelgood legislation against HateThink has been on their agendas a few times already). I mind that they've been wailing for years about defense of the realm, but when it comes right down to it, men like Durbin care more for their own pockets than for the safety of their constituents. And, I mind that I haven't been elected to serve before this date, because I could have used a few spare thou to fix up my house, and maybe buy a car, after I go back for physical therapy to get my aches and pains under control again.
This is not the sort of thing which should be legislated against, it should not end up as court proceedings, it should not have existed in the first place, if the people we elected had any shred of (a) decency, (b) ethics, or (c) national/state pride.
But that's probably too much to ask of a politician.
It's time we threw them all out & started from scratch.
