Alexandra at All Things Beautiful has issued A Challenge To The Blogosphere: 'The Ten Worst Americans' List. I don't know if I can come up with ten right off the top of my head, but I'm thinking that, in my lifetime, the Rev. Jim Jones comes up near the top of my list. In his name, in the name of some forsaken religion, hundreds of people killed themselves and their children. I think he has a lot to answer for, also, for the response people now have to extremely devout individuals... you now have that oh-so-subtle shading of "religious nut" with any charsimatic religious leader, and people just sort of assume that all those who call themselves believers are as lethally screwy as he.
O' course, sometimes they're right.
Update, Thursday afternoon: I'm going to have supper, tonight, with a family friend & his mob, and I figured I'd ask for some input from him. (He was, after all, the one professor who managed to get me to work my hindquarters off while I was in college, even in the depth of one of my depressions.) I'll likely have more on the list in other posts.
