The Daily Review Atlas had this police report, today: (bold, mine)"[A] 1998 Chevrolet Lumina was totaled after striking a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a trailer on Illinois Route 164, one mile north of Gladstone at 9:05 a.m. Friday.
David L. Thompson of Gladstone was driving the vehicle, which was hauling a 28-foot wide portable garage on the trailer. Persons riding on the trailer, Lloyd Wellington of Gladstone and Nick Parkins of Oquawka, received minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police report that Thompson was traveling south on Illinois Route 164 when Dale O. Murray, 88, of West Burlington, Iowa, struck the garage as he drove northbound.
Thompson was ticketed for overwidth." (I should say so!)
I'm still trying to picture how a 28-foot wide structure made it onto the road in the first place. And, what exactly is a "portable garage"? I wish they'd provided us with pix. My imagination is running overtime over this one.
Ah, the challenges of rural community life!
