What do do with a wayward party

H-Bomb at Ankle Biting Pundits has expressed something I've been long chewing upon, myself: Time to Throw Bad Republicans under the Bus.

It is time to start expecting our conservative representatives to behave like conservatives, and not like fat cats who answer to nobody, not even the law. That we're now looking at a huge scandal surrounding the connections to Abramoff is merely a symptom of what I've seen as systemic laziness.

We have the same problems on a statewide level, too (not, of course, exclusive to conservatives, but then, we're supposed to hold ourselves to a higher moral standard than Chicago Democrats, aren't we?). If we are to maintain any semblance of integrity, we need to start demanding the standards be met at every level -- this is not only for a political and/or moral victory, but for our own safety and security over the long haul.

Criminal conduct among makers of law has serious potential to negate the validity of law itself. And that gives me chills just thinking about it.

  1. Obituary of Hank Texasburger III

    Part of him
    Was paralysed
    From the waist down,
    And part of him
    Was paralysed
    From the waist up.

But that did not prevent him
    From chairing an important
    Senate committee.

And he led a remarkably rich
    Internal life.

He could identify the reason why
    The military-industrial complex
    Needed hamburgers
Financed by the illicit drugs trade
    In Israel,
    To drop unnecessary bombs
    On Iraq.

And he knew the difference between
    Donald Christ and Jesus Duck.

He was a truly great American.
